Our Story: Rural Towns Matter

Cobalt Connect is a new name carried by people who have connected rural communities for more than three decades.

Since 1989

Cobalt is mined throughout the Inland Northwest in Idaho, Washington, and Montana. Known for its deep, rich blue, cobalt has long symbolized resilience, versatility, and energy.

Our story began in 1989 with Harold and Marian Weis, who transformed a small telephone and security business into a forward-thinking communications company. Harold believed rural towns mattered, and that they deserved the same access to technology as major cities. That belief shaped our early tower builds across Eastern Washington and Idaho, and it continues to guide the company today, along with a vision for strengthening rural communities.

For over 35 years, we’ve invested in networks where others often don’t: farms, small towns, mountain valleys, and remote roads where reliable internet isn’t just helpful, it’s essential. As we expand into new states and regions, every new town we serve strengthens the network of rural voices, businesses, and families across the Inland Northwest and beyond.

Technology will keep evolving, but our promise remains the same: we care about our customers, our communities, and the future of rural connectivity. Just as cobalt powers batteries, phones, and laptops, we power the connections that help rural communities grow, innovate, and thrive.
